"The Hookup" by Kristen Ashley

SERIES: Moonlight and Motor Oil #1
PUBLISHER: Kristen Ashley
GENRE: Contemporary Romance
SOURCE: Purchased
LINKS: Goodreads

When the new girl in town, Eliza “Izzy” Forrester decides to hit the local drinking hole, she’s not ready to meet the town’s good, solid guy. She’s definitely not prepared to engage in her very first hookup with him. Then Izzy wakes up the next morning in Johnny Gamble’s bed and good girl Izzy finds she likes being bad for Johnny. Even so, Izzy feels Johnny holding her at arm’s length. But Johnny makes it clear he wants more and Izzy already knows she wants as much of hot-in-bed, sweet-out-of-it Johnny Gamble. Floating on air thinking this is going somewhere, Izzy quickly learns why Johnny holds distant. He’s in love with someone else. Someone who left him and did it leaving him broken. Whoever was up next would be runner up, second best. Knowing the stakes, Izzy will take what she can get from the gentleman that’s Johnny Gamble. And even knowing his heart might never mend, Johnny can’t seem to stay away from Izzy. Until out of nowhere, his lost love comes back to town. He’s not going back, but Johnny still knows the right thing to do is let Izzy go. And Izzy knew the stakes, so she makes it easy and slips through his fingers. But that’s before Johnny realizes Eliza moved to town to escape danger that’s been swirling around her. And that’s why Johnny decides to wade in. That and the fact Eliza Forrester makes breakfast with a canary singing on her shoulder and fills out tight dresses in a way Johnny Gamble cannot get out of his head.

Over the holidays, I finally went after a Kristen Ashley's book. I believe this piece of news has just made a few fellow book bloggers particularly happy, since I lost count of how many times they tried to 'push' me there...

I must say, this book started with a bang—pun totally intended—and boy if the bangs after that weren't, err, pleasurably entertaining... Johnny Gamble can be a lot to take, and that perhaps is what really makes you want a hookup to be more than just that. It certainly is so for Izzy and, seriously, how can we blame her? I liked the fact their relationship developed gradually, I liked less what the blurb leads you to believe, though. Yes, his ex girlfriend left Johnny heartbroken, but he doesn't hold Izzy distant because he's still in love with her, and that's not the kind of angst I would have expected to see at some point because of that. Of course, something dramatic happens on the way and there's a good twist towards the end, one that puts you on alert, but it's all quickly resolved and I found that a bit disappointing.

Nevertheless, I still ended up having a good time with this book, there was something with the writing that made me turn page after page without putting my kindle down, so I feel like trying more by this author.

This week's pick: THE VIKING'S CHOSEN by Quinn Loftis

His orders are clear: launch a raid against England and bring home the spoils of war. But the prophecy is also clear: General Torben will take a foreign bride—one who is a seer and healer just like his mother. The eldest princess of England is said to be just that…a beautiful, charming, and headstrong woman. But he's a Viking army general and she's an English princess—and one who is already promised to the king of Tara.

Two worlds collide in this epic historical fiction centered on an undeniable chemistry that smolders against the odds. Richly written and injected with moments of humor, this action-packed romantic tale will leave you breathless.

When wishes come true: Kindle Paperwhite!

Hello everyone, and welcome 2018!

Hope you started it well, I sure did and had a very amazing Christmas! Speaking of, I received some pretty awesome presents, but there's one I thought you'd like me to share . . . And I can totally feel your approval ;)

Believe it or not, it's my first Kindle Paperwhite! I've been using a Kindle so far, but I always wanted a Paperwhite and my family not only got me one, but they also bought me a cover. A PURPLE leather cover! *heart-shaped eyes* It goes without saying, I already purchased a few books and manga—oh yes, I'm also a Manga girl!—and if it was up to me, I wouldn't stop! Fortunately, my wallet seems to know better, so I have it under control—for now. :P

I'm not really breaking any news here when I say I'm a very organised person, but I'm sort of having a hard time deciding how to categorise my collections. I have my books arranged by title on my physical shelves, but I honestly always thought dividing them by genre on a Kindle worked best. However, I'm curious to know what kind of method you use, perhaps it will clear my mind. Aaaand GO!

Laughing all the way, it's time for a Christmas break!

Believe it or not, I started planning everything when November kicked in, and by December 2nd all presents were here, the ones that needed to be sent to family got delivered, decorations were up, and I had real fun!

Now it's Christmas week, tons of people are running like crazy trying desperately to find what they want—or at least something that doesn't look like a last minute gift—shipping is tricky, if not impossible, and those who laughed out loud and made fun of me when I announced I was already planning Christmas last month, suddenly wish they followed my example. Soooo . . .

Who's laughing now?

Seriously, though, I hope you guys are good and settled!
Darkest Sins and I are going on a break until the New Year, which we hope is going to be brilliant! I'd just like to thank you all once more for making 2017 such a good year for us, your support has been amazing, the awards received unexpected and SO much appreciated, and your friendship simply precious. THANK YOU ALL!

Have a joyful Christmas everyone, see you in 2018 :D

Be on Santa's Nice List this Christmas!

Last week, a group of lovely authors released a self-published anthology of fiction and poetry I had the pleasure to design the cover for!

There's always something special when you touch a book you gave your contribution to with your own hands, and this one might be even more since it's a Charity Anthology released to help promote literacy. Interested yet? Let me see if I can indulge you in Darkness . . .

Dark Company II is a collection of original work inspired by the theme “dark”. Suitable for a mature audience, it ventures into dangerous places, tainted hearts, wicked deeds, and introduces sinister souls. From the concept of death to food on a plate, each piece provides plenty on which to ponder. Spanning several genres, there’s something to suit all tastes.

You gotta admit that sounds like a pretty intriguing premise, doesn't it? And all proceeds go directly to buildOn, a movement dedicated to promoting literacy in the world’s most impoverished areas.

So why don't you be extra nice this Christmas? Head over to Amazon and buy a book that will also help others, this world can never have enough of good people like YOU.
